Carbonatite in the Nuba Mountains occurs essentially as dykes, varying from 10 cm to 1.5 m in thickness and 150 m in length with a sharp contact with their gneiss, schist and marble host rocks. Carbonatite varies in its color from colorless, yellowish white, greyish white to white. It is commonly hard and massive, particularly in the core of fresh dykes. Uncovered portions of the dykes are occasionally soft as a result of weathering. Carbonatite dykes are often accompanied with yellowish and greyish white to milky white quartz veins/dykes of about 20–30 cm thick, in addition to pinkish to greyish pink veins and lenses of fluorite of approximately 50 cm in thickness.
