Type:
Cauldron, the most northern cluster at Mothra, consists of two active sulfide chimneys, patches of diffuse flow, and several extinct chimneys covering a ∼10 m × 15 m region. Cauldron, the 308°C black smoker for which the cluster is named, sits atop a 3–4 m long, low mound of oxidized sulfide debris, much of it coated by a thin layer (∼0.5 m) of metalliferous sediment. A 10 m tall, diffusely venting chimney stands a few meters northwest of the black smoker.
