Structurally, the Salt Range is quite complex, and young uplift resulted from compressional deformation linked to the Himalayan orogeny. In the central Salt Range, tight anticlines are intermingled with broad synclines. The development of these bauxites reflects the interplay of tectonic uplift, subaerial exposure, non-deposition, and the paleogeographic position of the Indian Plate, restricting their distribution to the central–eastern Salt Range.
