The average element grades of the deposit are 13–36 wt.% MnO, 124 g/t Ag, 1.39 wt.% Pb, and 0.98 wt.% Zn. The exposed strata consist of the Manitu, Baiyingaolao, and Baogedawula formations, and include intermediate–acidic lavas, pyroclastic rocks, and terrigenous clastic rocks. Seven buried mineralized bodies have been exposed by trial trenching that reveals intermediate–acidic continental volcanic rocks of the Baiyingaolao Formation.
Analysis of drill cores shows the presence of a redox interface with a depth of 50–60 m. An oxidation zone lies above the interface and a reduction zone below it. The ore can be divided into oxidized and reduced ore corresponding to these two zones. The main ore minerals in the oxidation zone are pyrolusite, psilomelane, cryptomelane, and black manganese metal oxides. There are four types of ore in the oxidation zone: massive, reticulate, oolitic, and conglomeratic. The main ore minerals in the reduction zone are rhodochrosite, galena, sphalerite, silver-bearing minerals (e.g., Ag–Sb tetrahedrite), pyrite, and minor chalcopyrite. Moreover, in fractured zones, the ore is disseminated, brecciated, or occurs in veins.
The hydrothermal mineralization period can be divided into three stages: Stage I, characterized by quartz–pyrite mineralization, and replacement of euhedral–subhedral granular pyrite by galena, sphalerite, and Ag–Sb tetrahedrite; Stage II, characterized by galena–sphalerite–tetrahedrite–rhodochrosite mineralization (including Ag and Sb); and Stage III, characterized by quartz–pyrite mineralization with vein quartz and pyrite filling fissures. Stage II was the main mineralization period.
