Type:
The inactive NE mound is characterized by chimneys composed almost entirely of amorphous silica. The NE mound occupies an area of ∼2400 m2 and is situated on the southeastern flank of the northern hill at a depth of 3425 m. This mound hosts an inactive, ∼2 m-high silica chimney and is draped by a thick layer (>20 cm) of tan, semi-lithified Fe–Mn oxides. These observations collectively indicate that the NE mound experienced hydrothermal activity in the past but has remained inactive for an extended period.
