Quebrada de Oro
Porphyry copper
The Soná prospect is a gold-rich porphyry Cu system with abundant magnetite. It is the only gold-rich porphyry known in Panama and is similar to those of the Middle Cauca Gold Belt of NW Colombia. It has not been dated but is tentatively interpreted to belong to the Eocene arc, although it may be of Miocene age. Historical gold mining is indicated by the place name, Quebrada de Oro.
