An Amazonian deposit.

The Juruti bauxite deposit is developed over siliciclastic sedimentary rocks of the Alter do Chão Formation (mudstones, sandstones, arkoses, and intraformational breccias), which constitute the parent material of the regolith. The lateritic profile comprises, from base to top, a mottled clay horizon, a massive to cavernous bauxite, an aluminous iron crust, and ferruginous nodules, overlain by bauxitic nodules and a thick yellow clay cover (Belterra Clay).
