The Rondon do Pará bauxite deposit is developed over siliciclastic sedimentary rocks of the Itapecuru Formation and forms a lateritic profile generated in situ. The profile comprises, from base to top, basal clay, massive bauxite, ferruginous bauxite, ferruginous crust, and nodular bauxite. A distinctive feature of this deposit is the presence of a well-developed ferruginous bauxite horizon, a transitional unit between massive bauxite and iron crust that is uncommon or absent in most other Amazonian bauxite deposits.
