Marodian shaft; Who'd-ha'-Thought-It
Historic mine location. One of the original leases. The Marodian shaft claimed to be a depth of 320 feet, and a West shaft is also mentioned. The lease had a winding engine. Active 1879-1905 producing 1440 oz Au, and minor Ag.
The shafts were sunk into granite, with the reef being about half calcite, and half quartz. The reef contained high values of gold, also galena, pyrite crystals, and sphalerite. The calcite was bluish or brown veins, and infilling spaces between glassy dogtooth quartz crystals. Sphalerite crystals in quartz. Massive galena associated with pyrite. Trace arsenopyrite.
