The mine exploits diamond-bearing river gravels on the farm Schutse Kama 103. Mining was established there in 2015 by Steyn Diamante, although diamond workings on the farm and nearby Riet River gravels predate that operation. The deposit formed where the Riet River emerged from a gorge and spread diamond-bearing gravels across a broad trap site.
