From the website of Element 25, the company operating this manganese deposit:
"Project Highlights

-Australia’s largest onshore manganese resource (>260 million tonnes)
-Butcherbird is 100% owned by Element 25
-Butcherbird has very simple geology and extremely low levels of contaminants
-It is mined in an environmentally benign manner with no explosives, no waste water and only water used as a reagent.
-Feasibility Study on proposed project expansion outlined strong economic returns and rapid capital payback.
-Our Butcherbird Project in WA hosts Australia’s largest onshore manganese resource, comprising large tonnages of near-surface manganese oxide ore in seven deposits.

In January 2024, we released a Feasibility Study (FS) on the proposed expansion of Butcherbird to 1.1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of manganese oxide concentrate which demonstrated robust economic returns and rapid capital payback.

We have commenced detailed design, planning and procurement for the Stage 2 Expansion Project. Expansion of the Butcherbird processing facility is an important step in providing feedstock for our planned battery-grade high purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM) project to be built in Louisiana, USA in partnership with General Motors LLC and Stellantis NV.
