The Umm Matierah gold prospect is an arc related low-sulfidation epithermal gold. The prospect is further characterized by brecciated quartz veins, irregular stockwork, and disseminated mineralization, all suggesting that the deposit was formed at shallow crustal levels. The Umm Matierah gold prospect can be distinguished from other gold deposits in the area (e.g., orogenic gold deposit) by: (1) temperature of formation, which ranges from 100° and 300°, (2) depth of emplacement (≤2 km), (3) gas-rich neutral pH and low salinity fluids, (4) veins and replacements features, which occur close to volcanic rocks, (5) relatively high Au and Ag metal signature, less sulfides and base metals, and elevated As and Sb.
