The Lüliangshan peridotite massif, which is the largest ultramafic outcrop (~500 m × 800 m) discovered in the North Qaidam UHP Belt, is enclosed within felsic gneisses. Mineralogical evidence, including diamond inclusions in zircon, exsolution lamellae of rutile and pyroxene in garnet, and ilmenite exsolution in olivine, indicates that these peridotites underwent UHP metamorphism at depths >200 km during the early Paleozoic, with peak ages of 420–430 Ma. Geochemical and isotopic data suggest that the Lüliangshan peridotites represent relics of an ancient mantle wedge. During continental subduction and collision, these fragments experienced multi-stage metasomatism by slab-derived melts and fluids, resulting in significant composition modification and the formation of pyroxene-rich ultrabasic rocks.
