Gabal El-Anbat area forms parts of the basement of Wadi Hodein district in the SED. It is occupied by island-arc metavolcanic/metavolcaniclastic rocks that are tectonically thrusting over large ophiolitic serpentinite masses. The area is traversed by numerous NW and NNW–SSE fault zones. Sheared blocks of talc-carbonate, carbonated serpentinite and foliated metabasalt are present along these faults as sheets or lenses, forming the main body of El-Anbat Mountain. Furthermore, elongated slices of these rocks are embedded within the surrounding volcaniclastic metasediments.
