The exposed strata in the Xishuangshan Cu-Au deposit consist mainly of the Cretaceous Yixian Formation and Quaternary deposits. Structurally, it is dominated by NE-trending faults with subordinate NW-trending ones. Magmatic rocks are predominantly Yanshanian biotite granite and medium- to fine-grained granite, whereas dykes mainly comprise lamprophyre, diorite porphyry, granite porphyry, and diabase. Mineralization in the district predominantly occurred during the Yanshanian period, coeval with the large-scale Cu-Au metallogenic event in western Liaoning that concentrated in the Early Cretaceous. Wall-rock alteration is intense and widespread, characterized by sericitization, muscovitization, kaolinization, carbonatization, and epidotization.
