The exposed strata in the Qiaozhangzi Cu-Au deposit comprise, from oldest to youngest, the Neoarchean Suizhong gneiss complex, the Jurassic Tiaojishan Formation andesitic tuff, and Quaternary deposits (Fig. 3b). Faults are well developed and occur mainly as five sets trending sub-EW, NWW, NW, NNE, and NEE. Mesozoic magmatism was intense, producing volcanic rocks of the Tiaojishan Formation together with intrusive rocks such as granodiorite and quartz syenite porphyry. The mineralization is similarly of Late Yanshanian age, coeval with Early Cretaceous intermediate-felsic magmatic-hydrothermal activity, and controlled by a back-arc extensional setting driven by the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific plate. Wall-rock alteration is extensive, mainly comprising silicification, chloritization, kaolinization, sericitization, and carbonatization. Notably, chloritization is widespread in all rock types across the district, whereas sericitization tends to occur as planar distribution. Three Cu-Au orebodies have been delineated in the district, all hosted within structural fractures of the granodiorite and strongly controlled by NWW-trending faults.
