A Victorian copper mine dating from 1835 that started much later than the other two interconnected Gt Orme mine mines on top of The Orme, whose first workings go back to the Bronze Age.

Geographically separated from them, Ty Gwyn was worked via the Ty Gwyn (SH7805 8260) and Ty Fron shafts (SH7778 8372) and the Ty Gwyn adit, whose portal (SH8717 8273) lies near Llandudno pier.

Originally successful, Ty Gwyn initially produced ore worth £93,000 over 12 years, but flooding was a problem and the mine closed in the early 1850s.

The mine was reopened in 1986 by the The Great Orme Exploration Society. The adit is now accessed via a manhole by the pier excavated by the society. Their website http://www.goes.org.uk has much information about, and photographs of, the three Gt Orme mines.
