Nodular grey europium-rich monazite in Revinian (Potsdamian) schists of the Rocroi Massif. Located NNW of Charleville-Mézières, close to the Belgian border.

The Rocroi Massif is a geological massif in the Ardennes, located around Rocroi in France. The massif lies for a small part within Belgium.

The massif lies in a large folded structure called the Anticline of the Ardennes. This anticline was formed in the Hercynian orogeny. At the core of the anticline outcrops Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian rocks abound in a number of massifs. The surrounding rocks of the flanks of the anticline are of Devonian or Carbonic age, and are less competent than the massifs. That is why the massifs form higher plateaus in the landscape of the Ardennes. The elevation in the landscape at Rocroi is called the Plateau of Rocroi.

At Rocroi mainly quartzites and phyllites crop out. These rocks were deformed in both the Hercynian and the Caledonian orogeny. This manifests itself, for example, in many folds, quartz veins and fractures in the rock.
