The lode at Cae Mawr is of short strike but considerable width and carries both copper and gold ores, albeit in moderate quantities.
A confused mass of excavations occur on the outcrop at the GR cited, whilst adits have been driven lower down towards the Mawddach.
Cae Mawr worked intermittently from at least 1832 to 1895. The only available output figure is for 1891 when 10 tons of quartz ore yielded 1.35 ounces of gold.
