Visible grains of gold in quartz occur about 1 km west of the summit of Croagh Patrick (veins "A" and "B"), in Clew Bay area. Often found in cubic epimorphs after pyrite. Grains only rarely exceed 2 mm. Electron probe analysis of a single grain gave approximately 84 % Au. Other assays are similar, with values of around 85 % Au.
