Enstatite achondrite-ungrouped, weathered
Found in September, 1998; 8.68 kg

Found near the village of Zaklodzie, the Zaklodzie Meteorite is an unusual, but highly weathered Enstatite-rich differentiated rock with clear mineralogical and compositional similarities to both Aubrites and the shock-melted Enstatite Chondrites. Its primary constituent is enstatite (~60 vol%), but Fe-Ni metal (~20 vol%), Troilite (~10 vol%) and 2 varieties of Plagioclase/Feldspar (~10 vol%) are also important. The outer regions, especially, contain typical products of terrestrial weathering (e.g., iron oxides, sulfates, calcite). Inside, however, are found a number of utterly reduced phases typical of the Enstatite clan (oldhamite, keilite, rare sinoite…) plus two new sulfides, Buseckite and Browneite.

Unusual metallic-graphite globules inside enstatite, three different silica minerals (here, tridymite the most abundant), and two generations of alkali-feldspars are just one more reminder that the homeworlds of the Enstatite-rich meteorites were surprisingly diverse. One wonders whether they might have, perhaps, been more numerous than the 4-5 putative parent bodies commonly referred to in the literature.
