This small mine is belived to quite old (pre 1650?), the ore is said to have been silver enriched. The mine is known to have been at work in 1701, when it was developed by The Company of Mine Adventurers. The mine is recorded as being still rich in the 1740's. There was a trial in 1848-9, and some ore was produced afew years later. 1919 the mine was again receiving attention.
There are no records of output.
A fenced shaft collar sits at the top of the hillside and below this apparently the filled entrance to a level. There is an obvious tip that produces both galena and sphalerite. A further shaft is located on the slope of the bowl of the hillside to the south. However on the top of the hill is another shaft collar and a series of low mounded spoil heaps which produce galena specimens of rather better quality than the lower tip.
South of the site a mountain bike track enters the forestry and winds down through both tips associated with the levels on the steep hillside. I wish I'd known that before I took a rather more adventurous route.
