Peñas Blancas

Most northern of all emerald mines in the Western Emerald Bearing Belt (Boyacá, Colombia), also known as the Vasquez - Yacopí District. The mineralogy of Peñas Blancas is very different from that found in the other mines in Colombia, particularly because of the absence of pyrite and other sulphides and the presence of fluorite crystals of up to 40 cm between aristes.

To clarify this locality... it's not a single mine.
It's a mountain, and there are many little mines and prospects.
Some are principally mined for emerald, tho not much comes out, thus most are not "official" or ...with licence.
As one goes up, more are focused on the famed quartz and fluorite... where no emeralds are found. In the upper parts, only a few keep going in tunnels trying to find emerald. Some is found, but most are excavated for quartz, and some do find emerald, but in small quantity, and thankfully many are preserved as specimens in sometimes in association with other minerals, like calcite, quartz and even fluorite.
