Giacimento di uranio di Val Vedello, Piateda, Sondrio, Lombardia, Italia
Uranium mineralization in altered ignimbrites of the Collio Permian basin.
Prospecting works have been performed on the northern slope of Pizzo Gro and Cima Soliva on three levels: at an elevation of 1807 m, 1980 m (the main one), and 2080 m respectively. This is the richest uranium deposit in Italy, in which the presence of more than 5,000 t of U3O8 has been ascertained.
Uraninite, as black veinlets and botryoidal masses sometimes admixed with sulphides, is the main uranium mineral; brannerite, as blackish grains, is present in the upper part of the deposit; huttonite and florecite-(Ce) are present in the deepest horizons. Uranium secondary minerals are practically absent in this deposit. Only traces of autunite and torbernite have been observed near the surface.
