Evans Mine
Located on Lot 1, Con. I, Snider Township, on the Copper Cliff offset.
"In 1885 F. J. Eyre discovered the Evans Orebody. 1889-1899 the Evans Mine was in production by Canada Copper Company in open pits and underground to a depth of 250’. In 1967 development of the Copper Cliff South Mine started with the collaring and 50’ of sinking of the #2 Shaft. In 1968, the #1 Shaft was collared and sunk 59’ and the #2 Shaft was sunk to 1357” with the establishments of 5 levels and a combined drifting/cross-cutting of 331’. In 1969 the #1 Shaft was sunk to 436’ with 2 levels established; the #2 Shaft was sunk to 2301’ with a further 5 levels established; a ramp from the surface to the 500 Level was driven, 91 raises and a total of 1783’ of drifting and cross-cutting were completed. In 1970 the #1 Shaft was continued to 2230’ and 7 more levels were established, 25,140’ of drifting/crosscutting, 4658’ raising, and 52,371’ of drilling were achieved in 211 underground collared drill holes. In 1971 commercial production started. 2008: Operations suspended. 2022: Production recommenced under Vale Canada Ltd."
