The mine as now seen was developed in 1907 by Clements Lead Mines Ltd., a Glasgow based company and produced several thousand tons of lead ore. Extensive dumps remain at the site, some of which are very rich in massive sulfide ore where galena and pyrite can be readily found.
A crushing, dressing and washing plant was constructed below the workings, driven by water from a reservoir on a stream further up the hill. The ore was transported to the concentrating plant by tracked tubs using an endless rope system.
The site has extensive (by regional standards) albeit barren underground workings. Much of the richer material originated from the opencast workings.
