Our Kickstarter campaign to fund publishing our next anthology, Wild and Full of Marvels: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Folklore and Fairy Tales, is in the home stretch – only one week left before it ends!

We’re running out of teasers to share, as well, but there’s still a few. Today, meet the artists radicalhoodie and Luck Stellaluna Faer, and the authors S. J. Ralston and Cedar D. McCafferty-Svec!

Story 1, accompanied by a photograph of a white person in a cap, aviator glasses, and bandana gesturing toward a view of a valley below, is entitled "The Maze" by S. J. Ralston. Text: “Somebody’s gotta look after you,” Gabe said. “God only knows why you stay out here all on your lonesome.” A pang went through Merle’s chest. Gabe was the only person who visited him out here, and Merle was grateful for it, but Gabe had a way of intimating that Merle ought to come back into town. You find somebody to love with your whole heart. And if that somebody loves you back, whole-heart, not one other thing on this Earth can touch you. Merle had held that hope close, whispered it every night since alongside his prayers. Especially after Mama and Papa died of cholera. They’d loved each other so much. Merle hadn’t gone to the funerals. Hadn’t dared to. That had been the last straw for Gabe’s predecessor, a man who, in the end, hadn’t loved Merle enough. Or Merle hadn’t loved him enough. Either way. “I like the quiet,” Merle mumbled. Excerpt 2, entitled "The Comforts of Home" by Cedar D. McCafferty-Svec," is accompanied by artwork of an orange-red dragon midflight. Text reads: Ten years ago, when Thumbelina was brought to Oberon, King of the Faeries she thought: This is my happily ever after. She'd been dragged through hell and back—between Mrs. Toad kidnapping her to marry her son and Ms. Fieldmouse nagging her to marry a mole—and surely this was the end of her journey. When she'd been bent over the weak fire during the long winter months spent with Ms. Fieldmouse, praying for a savior come spring, home had been so far away it wasn't a thought in her mind. She didn't want to marry Mr. Mole and spend the rest of her life underground, shunning the sun. Once spring had arrived, Oberon was everything she had dreamed of, her own personal knight in shining armor. She’d been so optimistic, but the castle never started to feel like a new home.
