Reccer's Notes: An older favorite. I love any story that features characters falling in love on a journey <3

Complete AU (historical (different period from canon implied), crime, samurai),

Summary:  He was a wandering samurai―an impenetrable slaughterer, hell-bent on revenge who happened to stumble upon a young woman, who may in fact, be his only weakness.

Reccer's Notes:  A very fascinating AU that even has a couple parallels to canon, like a jealous Naraku trying to steal InuYasha's love (in this case Kagome) away from him and the Band of Seven.

Theme: time travel, crossover/fusion, rare pairings, established relationships

Summary: Kagome never imagined that another could do a time slip the same way she did. But, when she's asked to help a sick man in another village, she learns that she isn't alone in the past. crossover with The Firetripper

Reccer's Notes: Before she wrote InuYasha, Rumiko Takahashi experimented with time travel with her short story "Fire Tripper." Both stories take place during the same time period of Japanese history, so it was perhaps inevitable for such a crossover to occur in some way or form. The fanfic explains Suzuko's story in a way that anyone that has never read "Fire Tripper" can understand the plot and know who she is from the get-go. This serves as an excellent epilogue to "Fire Tripper," all the while giving Kagome her proper due as the messenger between time periods.

Theme:  (canon) time travel, amnesia, established relationship, kidfic, mythical creatures, marriage

Summary:  Inuyasha wakes up in Kagome's bedroom after the final battle with Naraku, unable to remember how he got there. With the well sealed, he must make a life in the modern era as his past catches up with him.

Reccer's Notes: The first time I read this it was about one AM. I expected to just read the first few paragraphs and bookmark it for the next night. Instead I read the whole thing in one sitting, it was that intriguing. Granted, I had only two hours of sleep before having to go to class, but it was all worth it. I love the parallels and symbolism. The twists are really good and understandable too. Hands down one of the best, if not the best, "InuYasha gets trapped in Kagome's time" fanfics I have ever read.

Summary:  Hell is in the details.

Reccer's Notes: Set post-series. A major love triangle in IY was InuYasha/Kikyou/Kagome. This is about what if InuYasha chose Kikyou instead of Kagome and how the couple lives not-so-happily-ever-after post-Naraku's fall.

As usual with Aiffe the writing is gorgeous and touching. This is one of the only IY fics I've uncovered that does not make Kikyou out to be a total witch or a total victim. Even in a clay body she is as human as you and me.

Summary: Kind of like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but bloodier. Kagome never falls down the well. Everyone else suffers. Be careful what you wish for.

Reccer's Notes: InuYasha really gets going when Kagome is dragged into the well by Mistress Centipede. This fic, written long before the manga was completed, looks into what if InuYasha wished on the shikon no tama so that a dying Kagome never went down the well in the first place. There are parallels to canon but for the most part the adventure is really bloody and does not end well.

Theme: Novel-length Fic, Hurt/Comfort, Mythical Creature (youkai)

Summary: Something goes awry during a trip through the Well, and Kagome is stranded in the distant past where she encounters a familiar face. When a very young Sesshoumaru decides to keep her, the consequences ripple through time

Reccer's Notes: While the ending isn't quite my cup of tea, there is a lot to love about this story (and the ending is such a small part of this monstrous tale that I certainly don't mind reccing anyway!). She does a lot of lovely world-building with the youkai nobles and what things were like back when Inutaisho still ruled the Western lands, and she gives us a better appreciation for why Sesshoumaru ended up the way he did - his childhood has always been a bit of a mystery. As in canon, there are a few story lines happening in different time periods simultaneously, which is yet another way this story feels true to canon. This is a very good read.

Summary: Kagome, now in college, discovers the tale of Sesshomaru and Rin. Grief can be a prison, but the bonds of love are not easily broken. What is the truth behind fairytales?

Reccer's Notes: Besides being one of the most epic and well known Sess/Kag fics in existence, this is also a powerfully moving story about grief and friendship, and how those things can evolve in time. The author also has a wonderful sense of humor - the way the characters come to life in this story is natural, and yet not your typical portrayal. I am not a weepy fan by nature, but this story always makes me cry ... and I have read it countless times by now. This is another of my All Time Favorites.

Reccer's Notes: This interpretation of how the series could've ended (and its aftermath, where only Rin and Kagome survived) is tragic, yet so beautiful to read. Resmiranda does not make the actual details of the tragedy clear, but the ambiguity is what makes the horror even more impacting. It's also interesting to see sweet little Rin as a teenager, and one living in 1990s Tokyo with Kagome at that.

Theme: Female Characters, Soulbonding, Mythical Creatures (youkai, dragon, mermaid, immortal), Hurt/Comfort, Amnesia, Genderfuck, Superowers

Summary: After finding an old scroll in a chest of Inuyasha's memories, Kagome finds herself sucked into its magic along with the youkai lord who possesses the scroll's brother. Now they are forced to work together to find their way back into the real world, lest they be stuck together forever in a world of fairy tales and legend.

Reccer's Notes: This is a fun read: comedy, action, and some insight into each of these characters and their motivations in life. Plus I always enjoy Japanese folklore, and this does a good job of bringing a lot of that in. In fandom as a whole, Kagome is often portrayed as a weaker character (damsel in distress, codependent, the list goes on), but this story does a wonderful job of showing her true strength and determination as we see in canon.

Summary: What it truly means to come full circle.

Reccer's Notes: An Alternate Reality story set after the end. Kagome, heartbroken and stuck in her own time, suddenly runs into a familiar and very missed face. The author touches upon the ideas of reincarnation and fate - two things very prevalent in the series itself - as the pair fall back into place, right where they'd left off. It's also a really nice mirror to the experience Inuyasha had when he first met Kagome in the actual series.

Reccer's Notes: If you love angst and slow burn romance, this is a must read. These two had been brought together by the power of the Shikon Jewel early in the actual series, and Forthright continues this bond post-manga, bringing them closer than they've ever been before.

Reccer's Notes: Forthright has a wonderful habit of taking clichÃĐd themes and doing them the right way. While I'm normally not a fan of AU's (in any fandom), this alternate setting was fun to follow. As for the soul bonding, this story is a good fit in a few ways, starting with fate and ending with, well, a bond. ;)
