Interesting...

Many times, we try and rationalize rulings in Islam based on our thinking, and it leads us astray. Ali Ibn Abi Talib (R) said in a Sahih Hadith, as is mentioned in the Sunan of Abu Dawud “If this religion were based solely on (human) reason, the bottom of the socks would be wiped and not the tops. But I saw Allah’s Messenger (S) wipe the top of his socks and not the bottom.”

The Haram Brain AKA The Consequences of Not Thinking

(Taken from a sister's Journal)

It's amazing that there are still people alive today who insist that they don't have the right to use their own brain (they say that thinking is haram). They insist that only people who choose to use their brain to get an education should be followed. Unfortunately, however, the assumption is that everyone who has an education possess knowledge with understanding.

When you debate with these people, all they can do is quote the words of someone else. They can rarely come up with thoughts entirely of their own. With people like this, comments are often made without possessing the forsight of what the possible consequences of such comments could be because thinking is haram. Furthermore, with people like this, debates that would otherwise be intellectual turn into arguments because of the one side's refusal to think because thinking is haram.

In order to debate succesfully, there must be an active thought process, that is both parties must use their God-given brains. That thought process must decide whether to reject the other side's evidence based on conflicting evidence that they possess, or it must decide to accept either a part of the argument or the entire argument and relent to the debate. When one party refuses to think because thinking is haram the debate will turn into an argument that is circular and often hypocritical because the rejection is automatic.
