Now that's what I call good business!

I recently received a $100 gift certificate to Kaleidoscope Yarns from my awesome sister-in-law. As you can well imagine I was totally excited. I was so excited I couldn't figure out what I wanted to get. You know how when you don't have any money you can think of a million things you want, but then when you do have money you can't decide on anything. That's how it was for me. So I held on to it and periodically went to the website to browse. Finally I decided on this mixed fiber shawl last weekend and placed my order. I had a little left over so I also got someself patterning socks as well and that put me just 95 cents over my gift card. I put in the order and was a little nervous because they took my credit card info for the order and said that the gift card would be applied later on after it had been verified. I was sure that the gift card would go through fine, but somewhere in the back of my head there was this nagging feeling that something might go wrong and if that happened we'd bounce our car payment. I decided to trust that everything would be fine. I've been fortunate enough to never have any problems ordering things online, and I had ordered from Kaleidoscope before with no problems. A few days go by and my package was sent. I checked my bank statement and holy shit there was a $100.95 charge on my account. After a minor freak out I called Kaleidoscope. The woman I spoke to was very nice. She checked my order and immediately saw that there was a gift card but that it had been overlooked. She said she would credit the money to my credit card immediately but that my bank might take a day or two to process. She gave me her name (it turned out she was the owner) and told me to call her back if it caused me bounce any checks and that she would cover any fees that it might cost me. I was a little surprised by that. It's been my experience that most businesses will not offer that unless you throw a big fit, which I did not. It was a simple mistake that anyone could have made. She was very apologetic, and I thanked her for taking care of things so quickly. The next day the money was credited back to my account including the actual 95 cents that I owed on the purchase. Again, another nice gesture on the part of Kaleidoscope. My package arrived just a couple of days ago. I eagerly went through it, admiring all the pretty yarn, and wondered if I'd be able to figure out how to make the shawl and the socks. The shawl I think will be easy once I learn how to use the circular needles, but the socks look complicated. Then yesterday when Jack and I got home there was a small package on our doorstep. Jack was hoping it was for him, but instead it turned out to be for me and it was from Kaleidoscope. That's odd I thought. I was sure I got everything I had ordered in the first box, but then thought that maybe I missed a skein of yarn or something. I opened the package and inside was a handwritten card apologizing for the mistake, another offer to pay for any fees I might have accrued because of their mistake, and a 4 oz. tin of Paris Black Tea from Harney & Sons. What the?!?! Now, that truly is an unusual business practice. I was very impressed and it was very much appreciated. They will definitely get my business again in the future. They would have anyway, but now they especially will. :)
