Happy 4th of July! I thought I'd post a few pictures of my little garden. I posted a bunch of pics when Jack first built the raised bed for me but none since things really got going in it. It's doing quite well, and before long we are going to be swimming in tomatoes. We started out with a bunch of different things like carrots, green onions, radishes, and turnips. Now all that is left is the massive amounts of tomatoes and a row of sunflowers.
Mmm... Mmmm... Look at those tomatoes
Yay for sunflowers!
Some flowers from my yard:
Petunias!
The wildflower patch is just going to town!
This guy I'm really sort of proud of. My grandmother gave me a small clipping of this geranium last summer. It took it all summer to finally get big enough to start blooming. I decided to try and keep it inside over the winter even though they don't typically do very well inside because I couldn't stand to let it just freeze after it had finally gotten big enough to bloom. So I transplanted it into a smaller pot for the winter and brought it in. I nursed it all winter long and kept it alive. Then when I went to transplant it into a bigger pot for the summer and put it out side there was trouble. When I took it out of the pot it's roots just fell off. There must have been a little too much water at the end and not enough drainage so they had rotten. In a matter of a couple of hours it got all wilty and by the next day it was gone. I was so sad. I let it set on the back porch for a week or two because after all that I couldn't bare to throw it away. Finally I was going to toss it in the compost heap when I noticed the tiniest green leaf shooting out of one of the dead looking stems. On closer inspection there were two or three leaves. I know it sounds weird but I was so excited. I fixed it up good in it's pot, watered it real well, pulled off all the dead and hung it in the sun. Now it isn't as big as it used to be but it's blooming even more so than in the picture above that I took a couple of days ago. Yay!
Yesterday, we went to my grandparent's house for a pre- fourth of July cook out. There was a little of the usual family drama, but for the most part we all had a good time. Today we went with my mom to see the Fourth of July parade. Normally, I don't care too much about going to the parade but dad was marching in it this year with the Southern Indiana Pipe Band so of course I had to go see him play. They were very good and got lots of cheers from the crowd. I took a bunch of pics of yesterday and today, and will post them later on.
I love this time of year. Things are really starting to grow and bloom. I've really been having fun gardening this year. It's makes all the difference in the world when its actually YOUR yard.
This is our lovely Clematis that grows on the fence between the house and garage. jakothewoods affectionately calls it the Chlamydia plant. Hmph. It's twice as big as it was last year when we moved in.
He is our wonderful wildflower patch out behind the garage next to the compost heap. It makes the area back there so pretty. My sister-in-law Edie bought us this wildflower shade mix last year after we first moved in. Different flowers will come up all season. It too is doing twice as well as it did last year. It's just going wild! I love it!
Check out these close ups: (Temporary cut removed)
Happy Clematis!
Beautiful Blues! Actually they are more purple, but they look blue in this pictue.
