Designed to extract usable rhythmic material from any sound file

WHORL analyzes the transient intensity and spectral weight of the loaded audio, separating it into three core dynamic categories: punchy attacks, tonal bodies, and sustaining textures. Slices are triggered across a 16-step sequencer. Rhythms can be crafted manually or generated through a probability-based rhythm engine.

CABCABABABC

WHORL was created by Scrap Brain Audio to eliminate decision fatigue and deliver usable sequences in seconds.

Push every step further

Each step can be split into 1/32 subdivisions or extended with sustain ties (>). Empty steps can play digital silence or a subtle ambient texture captured from the source audio.

Random Slices

Reassigns micro-slices while keeping the current rhythm and step placements intact.

Random Pattern

Rewrites step mathematics, polyrhythmic beat placements, and per-step effects from scratch.

Hardware Memory Slots

Save up to four pattern variations and switch between them instantly in real time via MIDI.

WHORL Modular FX Rack Interface

step-assigned fx matrix

Built-in effects for shaping each sequence.

  • Three discrete sound profiles: Build three distinct effect chains across geometric slots, combining distortion, delay, auto-pan, reverse, tape stop, and filter.
  • Step-based FX: Assign any FX profile directly to individual sequencer steps.
  • Instant movement without plugin chains: Trigger tape stops, 1/2-bar reverses, and ping-pong echoes on single hits without loading multi-effect plugins or slicing audio tracks.
