
Aist-2T [TsSKB-Progress]
Aist-2T is a series of Russian Earth remote sensing satellites developed and manufactured by TsSKB-Progress and operated under the auspices of Roscosmos.
The Aist-2T mission is dedicated to optical Earth observation. The spacecraft are designed to image the Earths surface and to acquire stereoscopic data suitable for the generation of digital terrain models. The system supports detailed mapping and topographic analysis.
An additional mission objective is the monitoring of natural and man-made emergencies. The satellites provide data for the observation of forest fires, floods, volcanic activity, and other hazardous events, supporting situational assessment and response planning.
The two satellites operate as a coordinated pair. Joint operation improves measurement accuracy and allows more complete and detailed coverage of target areas compared to a single spacecraft.
The Aist-2T satellites were developed and built by Russian industry for Roscosmos. The spacecraft employ optical remote sensing technology optimized for high-resolution surface imaging and stereoscopic observation. Data handling and onboard systems are designed for sustained operational use.
Each spacecraft is designed for an active service life of at least five years. The satellites are intended for operation in low Earth orbit, enabling repeated coverage of selected regions and consistent data acquisition over time.
Aist-2T No.1 and No.2 were launched together aboard a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket. The launch took place from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia.
After separation from the Soyuz launch vehicle, the Fregat upper stage performed the required orbital maneuvers. Both satellites were successfully deployed into their designated orbits and subsequently separated from the Fregat booster. The launch also carried approximately 50 additional small satellites as secondary payloads.
