Kosar [SpaceOmid]

Kosar (also transcribed Kowsar) is an Iranian Earth observation satellite designed for mapping and agricultural monitoring applications. It is the first satellite developed by the Iranian company SpaceOMID. The Kosar project began in the summer of 2018.

The primary mission of Kosar is Earth observation with a focus on land use, agricultural planning, and mapping. The satellite's optical imaging capabilities are intended to support national development projects by providing multi-spectral imagery suitable for vegetation analysis, land cover classification, and geographic information systems (GIS) applications.

Kosar was developed by SpaceOMID, an Iranian aerospace company. The satellite represents the company’s initial venture into space systems, marking its entry into the regional space technology sector. The satellite integrates indigenous design efforts, utilizing domestic expertise and available technology platforms for small satellite development.

The satellite is equipped with an imaging payload operating in the near-infrared (NIR) and red-green-blue (RGB) spectral bands. The sensors are optimized for vegetation monitoring and land classification tasks. Kosar achieves a ground sampling distance (GSD) of approximately 3.45 meters.
