The fall of the Chisenga meteorite was witnessed by a woman only ~12 meters away from the meteorite's landing site where it created a 30 cm deep hole. The roughly triangular-shaped meteorite was covered with a black fusion crust and striking 'thumb-like' depressions. After a speedy recovery it was analyzed (Ni 6.2%) and classified. However, only limited mineralogical information can be found in the readily available meteoritical literature. Kamacite and Taenite are present, of course, and the highly probable presence of schreibersite is obliquely suggested by Wasson et al. (1998).
Chisenga is one of the 11 witnessed IIIAB iron falls. IIIAB irons represent ~27% of all presently known iron meteorites (299 of 1,106 were listed at the end of 2014). The main mass is with the National Museum in Malawi.
