Discovered in 1899 and worked by Turner, Mackay and Hagen (surnames), producing 38 tonnes of ore for 231.5 ounces of gold, before the lease was forfeited in September 1900. In January 1903, Larrson and Chemmensen (surnames) produced 3.5 tonnes of ore for 255 ounces of gold, then abandoned the lease. It was then worked by several parties with limited success.
In February 1905, Rufus Henry Underwood, Potts and Priest secured the lease, and in May the same year came across an incredibly rich patch. This included 3 tonnes of ore for 806.96 ounces, and 1.45 tonnes of sands for 53.81 ounces. In March 1906, 3 tonnes of ore for 217.35 ounces and sands 18.9 ounces. They left the lease when the water level was reached. Underwood went on to become the Pilbara's M.L.A.
It was stated at the time the crushings were the richest in the Pilbara to that point as far as ore to gold ratio. It was only surpassed by Bill Hunter in 1949, at a nearby mine, listed on Mindat under 'Five Mile Patch'.
After this, the mine was worked briefly by another party, then in 1910, P. Cahill, Thomas Ward, Morrice and J. Elliott took over and were un-watering the main shaft.
The Mindat co-ordinates are sited next to where a couple of shafts can be seen just east of Ant Hill Road, but there appears little remaining in the area for historic workings. The Anne de Vidia gold prospect borders the Castlemaine Mine to the north-west.
