Köppen climate type:
Gold was discovered in the area in 1898. The goldfield borders the Skull Springs Road between 10 kilometres to 20 kilometres east of Nullagine. It starts for Mindat purposes immediately east of the Five Mile creek and Nullagine airstrip. The Five Mile Creek Goldfield borders it to the west immediately west of its name sake creek. The eastern limit is the Barton/Hopetoun/All Nations mine area. Beyond this is the Twenty Mile-Sandy Creek Goldfield.
Largely the preserve of prospectors. Active generally until 1915, and again the years after World War Two. Bartons is the largest mine in the area, and contains some mining relics. The goldfield has been heavily explored in recent years and bulldozed, in many cases obliterating the old workings.
Millennium Minerals has a processing plant at the western end of the Five Mile Creek Goldfield area, and plans to open several small pits in the Middle Creek area over coming years.
