Shearer's is likely to be a gold mine in the near future, with intensive exploration in recent years by Millennium Minerals. The site is about 15 kilometres east of Nullagine, and 5 kilometres south of the Skull Springs Road. The Otway deposit is 300 metres to the south, and it is thought the mineralisation between the two is linked. The site shows much disturbed ground adjacent to a small dam.

At Shearer's gold mineralisation is hosted by north trending thin quartz stringers in weakly metamorphosed conglomerate, mudstone and sandstone for the Mosquito Creek Formation, and dips 70 to 90 degrees west.

The outermost unit is chlorite schist, with interlayered amphibolite, and psammite. The amphibolite is 10 to 50 metres thick, of strataform lenses up to 300 metres long. The chlorite schist to the north contacts with 20 to 80 metre thick lenticular conglomerate. The psammite unit is 10 to 70 metres thick, overlying the conglomerate.

The central pelitic unit overlies the psammite units, dipping sub-vertically. It is cut by two dextral faults, offsetting the units. They are a 60 metre long east fault and 170 metre west fault. The west fault is marked by 0.2 to 1 metre thick quartz veins.

The Shearer's deposit is in a north trending zone of quartz veins and stockworks near the west fault. Much of the gold is found in the stockwork quartz. The surface shows one metre wide veins striking for 200 metres. Alteration zones only extend one metre away from the mineralised zone.
