Mount Melville is in central Albany, and there is a small overgrown quarry, just east of the summit. It contains grey syenogranite, with large well formed grey to pink megacrysts, and locally minor black xenoliths. Locally known as Albany Granite, more information of which can be found under the Mount Clarence Quarry Mindat locality.

There was once a monument workshop here using the material from the quarry, but has been abandoned for many years, with material now sourced from north of Albany.
