Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Kamoya Sud Mine; Kamoya South Mine
A benched open-cut secret mine first opened in 1998. The mine “owners” employed a strict security force to enforce a “no specimen policy” on the miners. All specimens during the mine's operation were obtained at the mill; hence, the locality was attributed to several erroneous mine localities. There are eleven “Kamoya” prospects, occurrences, etc., but only one large open pit (Kamoya South II Mine), and the large open pit is the source of virtually all important “Kamoya” carrollite specimens to date.
Located 2 km west of Kambove.
Note: Both the English and French Wikipedia pages (see links below) currently (November 2024) state that this mine is identical to the Kamfundwa Mine (either in name — English page — or in GPS coordinates — both the English and French pages). This is incorrect! When the Kamoya II South Mine was still a secret location, many specimens of carrollite were falsely attributed to the Kamfundwa Mine, as well as to the Mashamba West Mine and other places.
