Cooper & Stanley (1990):

"On the north side of Todd Gill, opposite the main dumps of the Roughton Gill mine, is a small collapsed trial on a copper vein [NY30353455]. This may be the working referred to by Pratt (MS) in about 1700: 'On the south side of Petra [Peteraw, the fell between Birk Gill and Todd Gill] there is a copper vein driven about 12yds into the hill, which they tell us was good copper & pretty quality at the beginning, but of little consequence when it was left of working.'

Thomas Hillary was working a vein in 'Toodgill' or 'Toddgill' in 1724 but gives no information to identify the site (Benson MSS, D/Ben/3116).

Other than some sphalerite and traces of copper minerals, the present small dump is barren. Adams' (1988: 72) reference to gold from this site probably confuses Kingsbury's record of gold from the nearby Mexico mine Low level [NY30553450] driven in Todd Gill in the nineteenth century."
