The name Nikkerud mines covers several small prospects and mines and some larger open pit mines.

Among them are Åserud (Aaserud) Mine (with open pits of a large depth), Magnetgruva, Dorotheagruva and Skramnæs Mine. A large, partly waterfilled (unnamed ?) open pit mine can be seen east of Åserud mine.

Mining for iron (magnetite ore) started in this area at the end of 1600, thus being the oldest mine in this field (Drammen/Konnerud). A part of Kongsberg and Hassel Ironworks in the period 1690-1697. From 1697, Eidsfoss Ironwork took over the mine, being one of its most important mines.

The mines are situated in contact metamorphosed Silurian limestone of the Steinsfjorden formation. The mines are located very close to the border between the municipalities of Nedre Eiker and Drammen.
