An underground zinc mine. The No. 4 mine (vertical shaft sunk to depth 3,200 feet (ca. 1 km)) & 5,000-tonne-per-day mill started in 1971.
St. Lawrence Zinc Company, LLC (a subsidiary of Hudson Bay Minerals, Inc.), which is wholly owned by Titan Mining Corporation, restarted the Balmat No. 4 zinc mine & mill in 2006.
The mine name was changed in February 2017 from Balmat to Empire State Mine.
