Name: Online? Its Miame.
Age: Twenty
Location: Waterloo, IA. USA.
About Me: Writing is my hobby. Since I'm going through a period of (paid!!) unemployment, I'd like to take the time to practice so it becomes a skill for me. I'm also adapting a plot bunny that was once a fanfiction into an original fiction of my own creation, so that's my most important project.
I'm not very up-to-date in what's popular right now, so please forgive me if I seem stuck in another era of entertainment @.@.
About My Journal: Public. Story notes that I like to make public et al.
I have a journal detailing the more intricate instances of my life elsewhere, so you'd never get anything too serious at this one. But I love to Complain. And Rant. And Vent. And I do it all in such a non-linear fashion, most people have no idea what I'm talking about ^-^;;.
I won't censure anything I write. If you take issue in anything you find, don't be afraid to let your own opinion be heard there. I like exchanging differing viewpoints with the strong minded.
What I Write: Magical Realism. My inspiration lean more toward anime and manga elements than anything else, so I can say that I'd like to dabble in a little of everything.
What I Don't Write: straight fantasy (meh), poetry (meh, again), romance (can't take it seriously), history (too dry if its left plain), science fiction (can't pull it off flawlessly), songs (no rhythm or tunes here!), fanfiction (tired of playing around in someone else's world).
What I Read:
Let's get these out of the way...
- Twilight; I don't think its an epic or even remotely good, but its fun to analyze what went wrong and how could it have been better.
- Harry Potter; like it, but more for analyzing the symbolism, writing style, and so on.
- abstract, absurdism, action, comedy, fan and flashfiction, slash, historical fiction, horror, humor, magical realism, mainstream (when I need a break), mature adult, modern, mystery, mythology, paranormal, philosophical, plays, psychological, religious, screenplays, satire, screenplays, self-exploration, serial fiction, short stories, speculative, spirtual, supernatural, surrealism, suspense, thriller, victorian, young adult.
What I Don't Read:
- Twilight; I don't mind if a friend enjoys it, but I won't anytime soon and you'd get your feelings hurt by how many times I mock the series and tear it down.
- If its not listed in "what I like to read", I tend to avoid that genre. I have been surprised and have found books I like in genres I dislike.
Favorite Authors & Books:
well...
- anything by Philippa Gregory
- anything by Zilpha Keatley Snyder
- anything by V.C. Andrews (guilty pleasure)
- Animorphs (K.A. Applegate)
- The Baby-sitters Club (Ann M. Martin)
- The Southern Vampire Mysteries (Charlaine Harris)
- A Little Princess and The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett)
- Little Women (Louisa May Alcott)
- Stephen King, on occasion (very rare...)
- The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
- Its Like This, Cat (Emily Cheney Neville)
- To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee)
- Fruits Basket (Natsuki Takaya)
- xxholic (CLAMP)
- The Wallflower (Tomoko Hayakawa)
- Nana (Ai Yazawa)
- Sgt. Frog (Mine Yoshizaki)
- there's more, of course, but these are just my basic tastes.
Could I edit someone else's work: Yes, I can, but make sure you have skin thick enough to take criticism. Too often have I beta'd someone's work and ended up depressing the writer because I don't proclaim their work the bestest thing I have ever read. I tend to get caught up in things like logic and grammer, so my reviews can really take a buzz out of a person's writing high.
What I'm looking for: People to bounce story ideas off of or just celebrate/commiserate on the different aspects of writing in general. I don't mind at all if writing is serious business for you but its meant to be fun, a project, and a hobby for me. If you can't take humor, please move to the left.
It would be nice to make actual friends here, too. I don't mind hearing about other people's lives at all, good or bad. You'd read a fair amount about my life on my journal, so its only fair.
Warning:
Please don't add me if you're just trying to pad your FList. I would be active to anyone who adds me as a friend, and would expect the same in return.
I can't stand constant angst. Complaining or ranting or feeling depressed is fine but if you're just wallowing in it just to get attention, or it seems to me you don't want to get better at all, I will become disgusted and bored with you after enough time has passed.
