Hi!

I'm M, a 30 y/o balancing a family, a career, writing, and sanity in the Northeastern U.S. These days, I mostly write original fiction and but I also do fan-works from time to time (Merlin, Hemlock Grove, Confessions of Dorian Gray, and in the past, Harry Potter).

The genres range wildly from historical based fantasy to modern dystopian worlds and do include so-called 'normal', every day type works. I tend to be angst heavy and my works generally feature some spectrum of sexuality, including but not limited to homo, hetero, bi/pan, and asexuality. They may feature polyamory, BDSM, slavery, non-consentual themes, drug/alcohol abuse and past history of child abuse. Despite the warnings, most of my original fiction pieces are plot heavy and not just "porn".

I like to read fictional plots and I'll read just about anything that catches my interest. My journal is friends-locked but you can find me under the same handle on A03 if you wanted to peruse before adding me.

Anyway, hi!

Name: Triaden

About me: I am a married mother of two who is going to be 31 in August. My husband is in the military and I'm starting college in the fall, and can't wait really. I was enlisted in the Army and met my husband when we were both in Iraq on deployment. I've written my first rough draft and am currently in the editing/revision phase and have 8 billion other ideas. I also write articles professionally for a military spouse website.

About my journal: Mostly I write about my life, which includes my kids, family, friends, writing and everything in between.

What I write: I write romance, sci-fi-ish stories that could be called paranormal but I don't think that that's the best explination. Romance is a central plot, but so is adventure, violence, and realism. I also enjoy a good historical romance, it makes me feel like I'm getting back to my roots. I'd love to write a fantasy some day.

What I don't write: I erotica, contemporary without something extra... like it's got to have magic, or be someplace in the future or something. I also do not write horror.

How did I get into writing: I've been writing as long as I can remember. I don't remember how I got into it but I imagine that it was reading that brought me to it.

What I read: I read historical and urban fantasy and paranormal romances. I read fantasy as well.

What I don't read: I do not read horror, contemporary romance, or anything that's... stuff that could happen to me in a normal life. I enjoy escaping into the fantasy.

Could I edit someone else's work? I don't think that is something that I would enjoy doing. I only do that for my very close firneds but I wont' say that I won't eventally want to do that.

What I'm looking for: I want friends who share my interests. We don't have to write the same things or read the same things. I'd just like to get o know some people.

Name: Night, but it's Dr. Night here, especially since my real names a death horse that's been beaten to a fine pulp.

Age: 17, Female

About me:Um, I'm in high school. A high school senior. So, in a year, I'll legally be an adult and (if everything goes as planned) living at school. Mom and Dad are so excited.

I really, really like slash. Almost as much as I love, Aldis Hodge, Angel Coulby, and Nicholas Brendon.

About my journal:
It will mainly be original stories trying desperately to make it to novel length. I write all kinds, from the mundane, quirky rom-com hold the rom to the urban fantasy drag queen adventure epic. You know, the classics that everyone has to write one time or the other. But, hopefully, I'll also rise to the challenge of writing fanfiction.

What I write: Short stories. Novel-length stuff. Things of the heterosexual persuasion. Things of the homosexual persuasion. Things of the this sexuality thing is getting to long so I'll just say et cetera-sexual persuastion.

What I don't write: Um, porn, I guess? I'm not very experienced and I know, I know, that's no excuse. But. I'd feel like some closet, pervert virgin. Not to say there's something wrong with anyone who does that. No, I just have issues. Related to self-esteem. And stuff.

What I read: I write what I read, sure. Amongst other things. I love me a comedy. If it makes me laugh, I want to have that story's plot-babies. And steampunk, baby, all the way.

What I don't read: Incest. Especially twincest. I mean, I might drive through a cousin thing, especially if it's a fanfic about a pairing I love. Such as Oh Very Young by apreludetoanend. S/he's on lj too, I think.

Also, I don't read stories where it feels like one character or group of characters is being treated like shit in comparison to their counterparts. Whether it's a romantic pairing or an antagonistic relationship (whether or not it's good vs. bad). It makes me feel uncomfortable and bored, two of my least favorite feelings. In fandom, I hate it, when it's my not-favorite character and even when it's my favorite character. Let me give you an example:

It's an all human au. Xander's some bumbling blue-collar working getting paid, like, minimum wage or something. He has no friends, because all the Scoobies (except maybe one if he's lucky), for some reason, have decided that in this alternate world, Spike's a much better candidate then anything Xander-shaped. So Xander's drenched in lonely awkwardness, hobbled under the overwhelming lust he holds for Spike while the latter is, well, not. Spike's probably sleeping with Buffy, Cordelia, Angel, etc in his spare time while he works a kick-ass job. And is kick-ass. Canon, sure. I won't dispute that. But, moving on, they'll probably be pulled together in...well, to be honest, I've never stuck around longe enough to see.

I hate this. It's never happened where Xander's in the super sauve position (or I've never read such a fic, not long enough to see this parallel at least, because let's be honest, ultra sauve Xander is hard to write and isn't usually written across from a hapless Spike--let alone a Spike at all.) But I've seen it with Rodney McKay, for example. And I feel bad for John, even if I admittedly love Rodney heaps more, I still love Col. Sheppard.

Wow, that got long, didn't it.

TL;DR?

Could I edit someone else's work?  I'd love to, but this is my senior year, so I barely have to time to be surfing lj at all, let alone giving any real attention to details like that. I'll have the time during times like Winter and Summer Break, sure, but they're sadly too few and far between.

But one day.

One day.

(BTW, you should look forward to this day too. I've been told I'm an editing fool [in a completely awesome way, of course.] Don't let any typos fool you. If, by some miracle I'm able to write this at two in the morning, then forget I typed that. There are no typos or grammatical errors. There never are. Because I'm perfect.

Oh, I didn't care for that judgemental silence. At all.)

What I'm looking for:
Writers, friendship and readers (who give comments and critiques.) And writers. Did I say writers? Sometimes I'll search the web for hours for something to read and...huh, maybe I'd have time for editing if I could cut that out...See, there's some incentive now!

If I came off as crazy or desperate, it's because it's 2 am and I woke up at 6 am this morning. That might be child's play to some of you, but stop being smug.

Hello

Here you have a hobbyist writer interested in adding one or more fellow writers to trade editing/critiquing and possibly character and plot development advice.  I mostly write about relationships, angst and drama but looking back I find that I've enjoyed setting these stories against backdrops of police/detective and mystery settings.  Until now I've written mainly original work and some fanfic.  I'd like to try fiction based on the Sherlock/Watson characters and this is a main reason I'd like some companionship - not sure I'm quite clever enough to get a Sherlock story together.

Overall my preference is to not feature killing or other extremes in crime or include gore or excessive cruelty.  A good writer shouldn't need to use sensationalism. In fact, my opinion is that a good writer could describe an empty cardboard box and make it interesting.  I enjoy the role of beta to other writers' work and will gladly fulfill this role for any writing associates I might make here.

I've noticed that many people posting here include their age and relationship status and all sorts of other information.  This may place me at a disadvantage but I'm a bit more reserved about such things and hope to keep my associations here focused on furthering the skill of writing and the exchange of ideas.

Thanks for reading.

Jess

Name: Pretend Mulling (or just Mulling) is fine with me.

Age: 22.

About me: I'm a Munchkin. No really: I'm barely five feet in shoes.

I'm also a foodie, a crazy cat lady in-the-making, a Lil' Monster, and completely unpredictable.

About my journal:

What I write:
At the moment, fanfiction. Namely Harry Potter fanfiction. My favorite character is Snape, and while I'm not an avid shipper, I'm currently working on an AU Severus/Lily-themed story, as well as one where Severus has to raise his niece after his sister disappears. They can both be found at my FF.net account.

When I'm not writing fanfic, I'm writing humorous accounts of my daily life and trying to find new ways to say, "My cat is an idiot." I'm also trying to pick up the pieces of a novel I started in high school and re-work the main characters into something besides Mary-Sue and her boyfriend Marty Stu.

I'm also trying to figure out how to adapt a novel into a screenplay. All of the advice out there is aimed toward people writing original screenplays. Harroomph.

What I don't write: Smut, basically. My fanfics do contain sex scenes, but never explicit ones and they're very, very few and far between.

What I read: Fiction. My favorite genres are young adult, post-modernism, sci-fi, fantasy, and realistic fiction. My favorite author is Chris Crutcher.

What I don't read: Anything with a weak plot AND badly-developed characters AND a poor writing style. Or just anything with badly-developed characters, but I can let that slide if the plot is interesting enough. I don't really let it slide too far, however; I am a freak about character development (hence why I prefer Snape to Harry, for example), so if a story has an awesome character that I adore, I'll let the plot and writing style slide further than I would if the characters were only "meh".

What I'm looking for: Fellow writers to talk with, laugh with, be merry with, and bounce ideas off.

Name:
Jenny

Age:
26

About Me:
I am just a normal girl who happens to be a total geek :D

About My Journal:
Its a bit of everything.

What I Write:
Pretty much anything that my muse feels like getting me into. I prefer things like fantasy, drama, and magical realism though. I write both original and fan works as well as all other forms of writing (but mostly the first two). I certainly enjoy making my characters like real people and making my plots like real situations (well as real as you can get with fantasy and magic lol). I also enjoy writing on the topic of writing, particularly about things like cliches and Mary Sue's (I am the author of The Original ANTI Universal Mary Sue Litmus Test).

What I Don't Write:
I don't write flat characters just to fulfill some random plot idea inside my head. I usually don't write futuristic or sci-fi stuff either, not because I don't like it (I love it), I just haven't had any good ideas or experience in writing it. I prefer magic to guns is all really. Also I almost never write pure romance, its always mixed with something. I don't mind romance, just not on its own. I seriously dislike romanticism and how everything these days is romanticized.

What I Read:
My favorite books are things like Harry Potter, Sweep, and the Fear Street Sagas. I enjoy mostly witch/magic related books enough though I will read anything that catches my eye.

What I Don't Read:
Anything that has been romanticized or something that just is totally wrong in all things writing (ie. stuff like Twilight). I am not much for straight anything - like just horror or just action or just sci-fi. Live doesn't work that way and I prefer to be able to imagine that the story is plausible rather than just a quick little escape.

Other Interests:
anything fun, living and enjoying life :)

Willing to Edit Someone Else's Work?:
Of course, do it all the time actually.

What I'm looking for:
Writing friends, I think we all know how hard it is to find friends that you can talk shop with, even harder when you move away from specific fandoms/genres. I am open for anything from exchanging works to discussions to help to just talking about things other than writing. I like talking with me, and it that person happens to be a writer as well than that's awesome :) I especially love talking with people who may or may not agree with me on things like Mary Sue's/cliches/other writing topics because that is my little niche in the writing community. Writing is fun, and having people to share in that just makes it that much better!

Name: lethargic soul (pen name)

Age: 16

About me: I am a Filipina--random and excessively strange. I am a college student in the Philippines, taking up Tourism. Well, writing is my singular skill (but I'm trying out new things like Wushu). I watch anime and am proud of it, despite my age :D

About my journal: I only posted once in my journal. But I might fill it with fanfictions and other works.

What I write: I solely write FANFICTIONS. Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, etc.. I'm still working on my fiction projects. My writing style is quite short and restrained (vague, if you may); I'm not much on long and detailed stuff. And my style is still developing: constantly influenced and referenced from authors. I write romantic-tragic stories. I write drabbles and short stories, most of which are tragic and/or weird. See Tags for more info :D

What I don't write: downright fluffy romantic pieces. I don't write about fairytale-themed stuff.

What I read: Romance with tragedy. Or romance with Mafia and racing (currently writing about those). As long as the fanfiction/fiction is realistic, and there are no Mary Sues... I'm good with it. I regard the plot and grammar very highly. Character development and the point of view too. I rarely like First Person POV. I love the works of: Poe, Jose Garcia Villa, Mario Puzo, and Dante Alighieri. See Tags for more info :D

Could I edit someone's work: I'm sorry, but no. I suck at editing. But I can give criticism :)

What I'm looking for: Acquaintances, friends. Readers? People to talk to about books, literature, etc... Oh someone who could help me with character development.  :)

name:  i've changed it before, and may do again.
call me Zen, or branded_irony, if you like.

age
:  21

about me:   ...i like pie?  and puns.
i am a madwoman with a box.
i drink enough tea to poison...whatever happens to have the misfortune of an allergy to flavored water.

about my journal:  sadly, there is much randomness, capslock, and far too frequent outpourings of angst.  but i have tags for writing, so anyone inclined could just skip the rest.

what i write:  poetry, fiction (original and fandom-based), philosophical / literary essay-type things, etc.  i explore characters, through whatever scenarios and genres they lead me.

what i don't write:  drivel.  Snape/Harry.  the script for the latest in a long line of rom-coms.  happy endings that aren't earned with blood and sobs.  things meant to be considered only on a base level.

what i read:  awesome stuff.  science fiction and mysteries and dystopias and gritty realism and even those angsty coming-of-age stories.  as long as it's well-written, isn't boringly predictable or pedantic, and doesn't squick me out, i'll probably love it.

could i edit someone's work:  quid pro quo, yes?

what i'm looking for:  critics.  commiseraters.  muses.  supporters. friends.  the virtual company of like-minded people.  time spent with well-balanced conversationalists.
or, baring the above, anyone willing to stroke my creative ego.

About Me:
I'm an English major entering my second year of uni this fall.  I guess I'm going to be a  teacher...?  I LOVE anything and everything artistic.  I'd love to travel the world someday. (Who wouldn't, though?)  Music is another huge passion of mine.  I play the clarinet.  I love learning languages, and I find different cultures absolutely fascinating.  I'm studying French as a potential minor.  Umm..  Haha, I'm sitting here trying to figure out in what order to place all of these things so as to increase the probability of people adding me.  (Is that normal?  XD)  Yeah, I'm kind of a geek.  I'm rather socially awkward, actually.  :S  I'm a perfectionist and a general over-achiever, despite being horrifically lazy at times.  Cake = Goooood.  My humour tends to be self-deprecating.  I love a good thunderstorm.  I am currently nocturnal, and spend waaaaaay too much time on the internet.  I have OCD, and, consequently, suffer from a lot of anxiety.  I don't have the greatest sense of self-esteem.  I don't pass judgments, and I worry all the time about making a bad impression on others.  Life is uneventful as hell...

Interests:
Literature (No, really?), Music, Psychology, Languages, Culture, History, Fashion, Science, Food, Spirituality (though I don't really like to get into it.  I'm very, VERY liberal, and my general standpoint is open-mindedness to all possibilities.)

TV/Anime:
I'm not a big TV-watcher.  There are very few shows I actually follow with some semblance of regularity.  Those include The Simpsons, The Office, and Desperate Housewives.  I also occasionally watch Family Guy, 30 Rock, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Mythbusters, and, like...Jeopardy.  XD  And I love the reruns of Futurama, Seinfeld, and Friends.

Music: Just about anything with any musical value whatsoever.  Right now, I'm in love with indie folk, indie rock, and indie pop.  I also like classic rock, sunshiney 50's pop, jazz (of any kind, really, but specifically bebop, cool, and vocal swing), classical, romantic, impressionistic..  Pretty little piano sonatas.  Bad 80's mainstream.  Dance.  I'm a sucker for syntho-pop.  Anything involving an acoustic guitar.  Crazy screamo hard rock (in very, very small quantities  XD).  Sometimes, on the weekends, I listen to operas on CBC Radio 2.  Yup.

Movies:
Also not a big movie-watcher.  My favourites have mostly been really random comedies and 90's Disney cartoons for the nostalgia factor.  I don't watch many dramas (though I think I'd like them best) or action flicks (they bore the hell out of me).  I guess I just don't watch a lot of movies.  Period.

Books:
I have read an embarrassingly small amount of actually good books.  The Catcher in the Rye.  Also, the Great Gatsby.  I was, at one point, obsessed with Jodi Picoult, but I've since come to my senses.  And The Time Traveler's Wife is the only sci-fi I've ever enjoyed.  Also, Harry Potter (but you can't hate on that).  PLEASE DON'T JUDGE ME BY MY SCANT PERSONAL LIBRARY!  :S

About My Journal:
Umm..  I mostly just write about my life.  Once or twice a week, on average.  I'll most likely have something to bitch about concerning the realm of Academia, even if I'm not actually in school at the moment.  I write quite a bit about my internal states, and I might get depressed and whine about how much my life sucks on occasion.  Ye be warned.  I just need to release it all every once in a while.  Uhh..  I sometimes (very rarely) post YouTube videos, mostly the music I'm obsessing over at the time.  And my creative writing shows up, of course.  I post just about everything I write that can be crammed into some kind of coherent form.  Oh, and I use the "XD" emoticon constantly.  So yeah.  :)

What I Write/Don't Write: I guess I write poems and mostly fragmentary short stories.  Little imagistic vignettes.  Plot is not my forte.  I'm all about the images and impressions.  I tend to write the bulk of my pieces within the psyche of the protagonist.  They're usually very realistic, self-explorational-type things.  I'm an experimenter, though.  I appreciate satire and magical realism (I didn't pair those two together for any particular reason; that's just how it came out).  I'm trying to step away from the abstract, though, because I don't want to go crazy.  Some of my earlier stuff might pass as "surrealist", but I just call it "laziness".  I'm currently striving for a major creative overhaul.  I'd consider myself a beginner, but I appreciate real artistic worth, and would LOVE some feedback to help me find my right direction.
In short: MODERNISM.  You like it?  Add me!  :D

What I Read:
I'd gladly read anything.  Except fanfiction.  And, you know, if you're big on writing an epic plot, and don't really care for art, I probably won't be that crazy about your work.  'Kay thanks.

Could I Edit Someone's Work:
I could certainly try.  :)

What I'm Looking For:
Friends who love reading/writing, interesting work to inspire me or just keep me entertained, and valuable feedback on my own little scribblings.  Or just plain friends, I'm not picky.  :D

I post a lot about various causes, writing/books, and how the two intersect. I'm also a squeeing fangirl, both for the shows I listed above, and for history (mostly British, but some French, and awesome historical women from any period or area) Also, I'm kind of a meme addict.

What I Write/Don't Write: I write historical fiction, mostly set in my Sherwood Forest 'verse. This contains (among other things) het, femmeslash, angst, war, and even the occasional bit of humour. I also write fanfic, for . . . well, for whatever fandom happens to catch my attention, really.

What I Read: Fantasy, sci-fi, historcial fiction, LGBT fiction, historical non-fiction, essays on any of the above subjects.
