Thank you so much to those of you who sent PMs, vgifts, messages, and emails after my last post. While my situation hasn't changed much, it means a lot to me to know people care. *hugs*
My mood has also been brightened by the fact that Merlin starts up soon, and the fandom has suddenly been flooded after what seemed like such a long drought. The Radio Times photoshoot, the behind the scenes pics, the new trailer,
THEIR FLAT OMG THEIR FLAT--I can not WAIT for tomorrow. In the mean time, to cheer me up I've been watching QI episodes back to back, so much to the point where my mother is constantly worried about me choking because I'm laughing so damn hard.
Also, is it just me, or is Alan Davies adorable? When it works, I've been playing the closed beta of the Merlin game on Facebook (a few of you might have seen the
snippets I've posted on tumblr), and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a review?
Speaking of reviews, here is TWO PL recs, because I'm trying to catch up, really.
The Dragon Within (Story by

Summary: (Arthur/Merlin, PG-13, 51k) In the aftermath of the Great Dragon’s attack on Camelot, the city is left with the enormous task of recovering from all it has lost. Left a broken man by the loss of Morgana and Kigharrah’s fiery rampage, Uther’s rule begins to fail. Arthur finds himself struggling to hold the kingdom together while Merlin slowly begins to discover all that becoming a Dragonlord entails.
KLJSDKLJdkl I adore stories that talk about Merlin's Dragonlord powers, and this one delivers while putting its own unique spin on it. I have such a wing kink, it's not even funny. But not only that, it cleans up a lot of problems I had with canon (concerning a magic reveal and dealing with Morgana) so nice and neat, it's impossible not to fall in love. The art itself is beautiful, and I love the texture and shading to it all.
This Tangled Web (Story by
hms_seth, art by
ko_no_yo)
Summary: (Arthur/Merlin, PG, 36k) As Prince of Camelot, Merlin Pendragon has always felt like he just can’t match up with the things expected of him. His needs are simple—his lifestyle is lavish. He wants to be a good son—his father ignores him. He was born with magic—magic is banned. One day, things will change, he was told. And after his twentieth birthday, they do. But Merlin is pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be like this. Faced with secrets of the past that have been long buried, Merlin doesn’t even want to think about his apparent “destiny” with Arthur, Son of Hunith (except for the part where he can’t really stop thinking about Arthur).
Role reversal stories have been done before, but I can't remember actually seeing one for this fandom, so this was a wonderful example of that idea. Throughout the story I find myself actually going, "Awwwww!" to either what Merlin or Arthur was going through. A fun, adorable story (though with some dark and adult themes) with equally squishable artwork. This is the kind of fic that just makes you place your chin on your hands and sigh.
OH SNAP RANDOM REC!
The Devil's Table by
kriadydragonSummary: (Gen, PG-13, 28k) Arthur and Gwaine rescue Merlin from the clutches of slave traders only to find themselves trapped in a strange castle whose residents have up and vanished. There's something in the castle that's after them, and to make matters worse, Merlin is already injured and can't use his magic.
Ooh, I am a sucker for whump!fic, and this author excels at it. Mind the tags that say horror, because they do mean horror, unless you think raising hellbeasts with sacrifices is nothing to be scared about. But huzzah for badass Merlin, even if he's injured.
