Entries by tag: birthday!

When: THIS SATURDAY, Jan24th from 3pm until the cattle come home.

Where: Our abode (Mine and Patches')
call me for directions Three Oh One Nine Two Eight One Oh Six Eight
or email

Why:
Last Wednsday was my birthday, and I wanted to celebrate.
And there's SO much else to celebrate too!

Do we have a theme?

Why yes we do. It's not much, but it'll be kind of fun.
The theme is "Spaghetti and Cheese"

I've acquired some DVDs of some of my favorite "spaghetti" westerns from the 60's and 70's (Sergio Leone's and others') and I would love to watch some of these deliciously cheesy movies with some good friends and eat some cheesy food while we do it.

We can and may also do some gaming, some schmoozing, play some music, build stuff out of Lego, and anything else we think of that's fun.

For movies I have
_The Good The Bad & The Ugly_ (of course!) The "Sabata" trilogy (The 1st Sabata movie has an AMAZING scene of a banjo player in a gunfight) _Once Upon A Time In The West_ _They Call Me "Trinity"_ (which is technically a *satire* of the genre, but stands up just fine, IMHO)- actually, as of today, it's not been delivered yet, but it should arrive soon. I've got the rest of the list tho.

And a possibly interesting set of Lee Van Cleef movies, some of which seem to be of Italian origin, but lesser pedigree than the better known classics.

Any contributions to the entertainment will be considered as well, and that includes changing or departing from the theme if we wish. It's a party. I don't need these plans carved into stone!

So, if you want to share in this fun, then come on over!
RSVPs are helpful but surprise guests are also fun.
Gifts are absolutely not required or necessary. Your presence is preferrable to me!
In the Baggins tradition, I'll have mathoms to give away.
I will (as is my wont) be making a bunch of food, but contributions of more food (especially CHEESY FOOD) will be ravenously welcomed. Same goes for drinks.
We have some crash space, but for that, an RSVP will be most helpful.
We have no pets. If we find pets after the party is over, we can not be responsible for them.
Our house has some excellent kid friendly places, but is not completely childproof. Well behaved, and fun children are, of course welcome. But the same warning applies, if we find children here after the party is over.

Final caveat: if you arrive early you may be drafted into party prep. But that also means you might get to play with knives or food!

Birthday redux: Mischief Managed!!

It didn't all go down the way I'd hoped, but down it all went.

The potential bummer was acquiring the DTV box.
There was a delay...
( What *IS* this, the Monkey's Paw?Collapse )
After all that,
I left early for my guitar student's house and got the converter box on the way there.

Well, actually, even if I hadn't gotten it, my Day was still pretty damn good, but I wanted to NOT have it be stained by this endemic bogosity for once.

Also acquired today were (FINALLY)copies of Vampire Weekend and the new Raconteurs' album Consolers Of The Lonely, both of which have been singularly NOT in any of the usual places I've looked to purchase them for about a month now.

A FINE FINE FINE birthday gift came in the form of a visit from number_12 who was there to refuse to help me install the new starter in the van. He also refused to let me help HIM install the starter. He brushed me aside, ignored my protestations, crawled under the van, and did it. And it seems to have worked! My van is now napping in recovery and in preparation for her outing this weekend. He very much deserved the last piece of Birthday Cake and the very first COPY of Crazy Quilt#1 Thank you SOOO MUCH!

I also acquired a phone line splitter so that we can keep our answering machine (which works fine, but who's phone is quite worthless and week and perpetually dying of late) but install the new phone, so that we can have phone in the living room that lasts more than 1&1/2 minutes.

I got lots of very sweet birthday wishes from far and near, which kept me warm all day!
Emails, phone calls, the works!
Thank you guys. I love you too!

And finally, just a few minutes ago, I got a really sweet capstone to the day:
I got my notice that I'm playing at Spoutwood again this year.
My favorite gig of all time ever, has had a turnover in entertainment. After a very long and lovely run, with Melissa (who's always been super to me) they have a new person in the job, and you never know when these changes go down, how much "history" is worth. (I'm looking at YOU New Deal Cafe) But anyway, there it was, my first "acceptance" email, waiting for me to come home from the lesson. Woohoo!
So now I have TWO more gigs to add into the calendar.
Now there's just ONE more left of the 'usual suspects' I need to hear from. I think I'll call them again tomorrow.

Oh, and patches023 seems to have fully recovered from the bug. She's back to her usual sparkle and mischief. And so far, I'm somehow bug free.

Best birthday in YEARS, I tell ya!

And now bed!

Happy My Birthday! (Big announcements too!)

So usually, I make at least a token attempt to not make everything all about me all the time.
No really I do. Stop laughing. Now look, just because I fail at it doesn't mean I'm not trying. Yah yah, I'm always trying...

Well today all bets are off. It's my birthday and it's ALL about me!

So the first gift I've decided to give myself is that I'm now officially done with the new CD, Crazy Quilt #1.
The audio was done earlier this week, and I finished the cover art and insert yesterday and I'll be starting production and duplication today or tomorrow. BIG thanks to the handful of you who have already purchased it at the 'pre release' price. Your copies will be in the mail any day now! So from now on, copies ae $10, but that's still a bargain. Track listing and some more details will come in a separate post.

The other big announcement is that I got confirmation on Monday that I am on again for my usual St Patrick's Day gig at Madam's Organ. This will be some version of the usual where I start shortly after they open in the late afternoon, play thru dinner and finish by opening for the regular band, who usually start at 9ish. So it's like mid afternoon to 8-8:30pm.
And sometimes I'm on again later for a short set when the band takes a break. Overall, it's not too late if you're not a hardcore partier, and early enough for successful additional mischief afterwards if we're so inclined. This is one of my favorite gigs, and was a source of some stellar tracks for last years Heart Of Green, so it's a good one to catch.

I was given a LOVELY treat at 3LF practice the other night of a totally awesome chocolate cake from Melinda. Ummmmm. I've been devouring what was left of it since.

Today will feature some shopping, (hunt for the DTV box take 3), and maybe some tinkering on a project for the weekend.

I will be having a birthday party this year, but because of the inauguration, I will be out attempting to entertain folks in Alexandria this weekend. So my party will be on Saturday January 24th. My theme this year will be "Spaghetti and Cheese". I'll be showing a couple of my favorite spaghetti westerns, and am hoping to wallow in lots of food that is also cheesy. Does anyone know where we can score a copy of _They Call Me "Trinity"_?

Oh, and happy birthday also to leiacat. While we don't disagree on every single little thing in the world, we do share a kick-ass birthday and Sun sign, so that can't be all bad eh?
