Contains blocks of carbonatite lavas.

Located within the Kavirondo rift.

Large volcano which is centred in the northern part of Kericho and Sotik volcanic area, Nandi County, Kenya, but extends northwards into the Kapsabet Plateau area and eastwards into Molo Volcanic Area, Nakuru County, Kenya. The eastern part of the volcano is intercalated with the products of Londiani Volcano, Baringo County, Kenya, which commenced eruption before cessation of activity at Tinderet (Binge, 1962).
The complex has an east-west diameter of some 50 km and volcano rises to over 2800 m, about 800 m above the surrounding country.

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Miocene : 19.9 Ma to 5.5 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
