Abulo Rukesa
The gem rush was reported on the eastern side of the village of Abuloo (also spelt Abulo Rukesa) in an area with very rare outcrops, often covered by reddish-brown sandy soil and visible only in some sections of the riverbed. It was previously presented as a soft soil hosting tourmaline crystal from the surface down to a depth of 6 m. Based on this location and on the satellite signature of the gem rush, the area stands in a metasediment group of the Precambrian basement. This group was described in, without categorizing it in a specific P-T domain, as a high-grade metamorphic, intercalated quartzofeldspathic schist and gneiss correlated to the Zembaba Formation, possibly the lowermost tectonic unit of the Adola Belt.
