Whitby has many old-fashioned sweetshops. On my most recent visit I found one of these in the window of one:

I mused to davefish "should I buy one?" and he wisely replied "it will make you happy". So I did. (He also offered to buy me another one next time if I could get this one home in one piece, which I managed, but at this point I feel I may never need any more mintcake ever again.)

Thursday is my last day at work; this is traditionally marked by cake. So I am baking. So far I have 44 fairy cakes; still to come are a good couple of dozen more and a batch of gingerbread ninjas.

Less happy-making are the results of the weather. So far I have spilled cake mix on my nicest bra and slightly burnt my stomach on the edge of a baking tray. Kids! Baking half-naked because summer is too hot: Just Say No.
